Heywood Academy Blog - 11.7.25

On Tuesday, we held a transition day for all the new staff at Heywood Academy.
Mrs Millard opened the day with her vision for Heywood Academy.
Ms McManus (the new Head of school for Heywood Academy) did a group activity in which all the new staff introduced each other and spoke about their personal aspirations for the new school.
After all the initial introductions, the new team had the opportunity to meet the Hollinwood Academy team within their different specialisms.
Ms Knott, the specialist support lead for Hollinwood Academy, spoke about the variety of interventions that currently take place at Hollinwood Academy.
The Heywood Academy team took lots of notes in how this could be replicated at Heywood Academy.
Finally, the day closed with a tour of the new Heywood Academy.
Jake at Tilbury Douglas showed the team how much the school has changed since the last tour.
There is now furniture and fixtures being fitted. It is extremely exciting!

Ms. Crossley, the English curriculum lead, has a few words about the day...
I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Heywood Academy at the very beginning of its journey. The new school looks incredible. It has clearly been designed with the needs of the students at its heart.

I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful and enthusiastic team, all dedicated to making great things happen for every child.

As an English teacher, I’m especially excited by the fantastic opportunities to inspire a love of reading and writing, as well as to create exciting cross-curricular links across different subjects.

I can’t wait to start up some clubs and meet all your wonderful children. I’m really looking forward to the year ahead and to being part of this amazing new community!

Finally the closing thoughts go to Ms McManus....
A new Chapter for Heywood Academy...
As I prepare to take up my new role as Head of School this September, I wanted to take a moment to share some exciting updates and reflections with you all.
On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of meeting our new staff team for the very first time. It was wonderful to begin building relationships with such a talented, experienced, and passionate group of people. I am impressed by the diverse skill sets and dedication within our team, and I know that together, we’re going to create something very special for our students.
We also had the opportunity to tour our new school building, and I must say, I was absolutely blown away. The progress so far is incredible, and the thought that has gone into the design is nothing short of inspiring. It’s clear that this is going to be a place where children feel safe, supported, and excited to learn.
I’m very much looking forward to welcoming our students and families to the school community.  I’m especially excited about our upcoming family event on 20th August. It will be a fantastic opportunity to meet each other in person, and see the progress that has been made on our wonderful new school.
